China Advertising account opening

Before Advertising in China

Before you start advertising in China, there are a few key items you need to take care of.
China's local laws require us to obtain and verify certain information about an advertiser before ads can be served to the China audience. Every advertiser needs to be registered in the publishers' system.
Typically, you will need the following:

  1. Business Registration - Certificate of incorporation in English or certified translation in English if in other languages (except Chinese). Typically it can be from any country.
  2. Passport - Copy of passport of the company representative as mentioned in the business registration, if unavailable it can be of any individual from the company or from the agency representing the company
  3. Client website - Typically this has to be in Chinese for most media, some media do make some exceptions and will allow for an English website. Other languages are typically rejected.
  4. Exceptions - There are certain industries that are more sensitive and will require additional documents before an account can be opened. These include, but not limited to Finance, Real Estate, Pharmaceutical, Investment.
  5. Additional documents - Sometimes stringent publishers like WeChat or Baidu might request additional documents. These include:
    1. Business Registration from China
    2. China ID of the company representative
    3. Industry documents like F&B license, Hotel license, license to trade in China, etc.
    4. Authorization from brands if the advertiser is an aggregator or a reseller.
